More Changes At OSHA

Earlier this week, OSHA administrator John Henshaw announced his retirement. Now there are more changes afoot at OSHA.

R. Davis Layne, Deputy Assistant Secretary (and second in command) has also announced his retirement. He'll become Executive Director of the Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association (VPPPA).

Taking Davis's place as "acting" Deputy (and presumably running the agency until a new Assistant Secretary is appointed and confirmed) will be Steven F. Witt who currently runs OSHA's rather moribund Directorate of Standards and Guidance. Dorothy Dougherty, currently deputy director of standards and guidance, will become acting director.

Good luck to all, and my congratulations and condolences to Steve, who will now have the rare privilege of becoming the primary recipient of the terrible swift sword of Confined Space. Oops, nevermind. See here.
