It's Spring, and a Boy's Fancy Turns To...

Kevin Drum reminds me of what’s really impotant in life: the Dodgers are in first place with the best record in the National League.

And serendipitously, ESPN the other night showed the best game in the history of baseball -- the first game of the 1988 World Series – The over-achieving Dodgers versus the mighty Oakland A’s -- where a crippled Kirk Gibson (hero of the improbable Dodger playoff win over the much stronger Mets) limped improbably to the plate and -- even more improbably -- hit the bottom of the ninth, two out, full count home run sending him hobbling around the bases and the Dodgers to an improbable 4 games to 1 World Series victory. 16 years later it still gives me shivers.

I taped it to show to my son.
